Ruuk Village
“There’s nothing I enjoy more than sleeping in a wooden cabana, having my own outside shower and an endless sight of palm trees. At Ruuk Village, the most difficult choice you’ll make in a day is whether you’re going to take a yoga class, go kitesurfing or just relax in a hammock. A place where time doesn’t seem to exist.”
Ruuk Village in the North of Sri Lanka, is an eco-orientated kite resort that’s built on an old coconut grove. With the wooden cabanas and a common area, it feels like a true community. The locals cook the most delicious Sri Lankan dishes on a fire stove, only at night you have power here and there’s no warm water. Back to the basics! Or “simple luxury”, as they like to call it. On the terrain, you’ll also find a kite school where you can challenge yourself to take a (first) kite lesson or just enjoy this relaxing place.
Ruuk Village is based next to the lagoon of Kalpitiya. Combined with the (summer) winds, it’s a perfect place to (learn how to) kite. If you’re not into kitesurfing, you can relax in one of the hammocks or take a day trip with the fishermen to see dolphins or explore the local town of Kalpitiya by tuk-tuk.
