“Enjoy the beautiful scenery of rural Thailand and have a pyjama party with all your train compartment companions during this amazing train ride from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.”

Taking an overnight train might not be so boho-chique, but it is a classic Thailand experience you simply cannot skip. It is the perfect way of traveling to see the country. The road from Bangkok tot Chiang Mai crosses small towns, ricefields and beautiful sceneries.

Enjoy the sunset and share a drink or two with your compartment companions. It is a great way to meet locals, since tourists and locals both use this train a lot.

The seats get turned into bunkbeds at night. You’ll get a pillow and some blankets and you can make your own bed. People warned us upfront that the airconditioning can make it very cold inside the train. Especially when you want to go to sleep, make sure you put on a warm sweater and long pyjama pants.

The total trainride takes about 13 hours. You’ll arrive in the early morning in Chiang Mai.
