“It takes hours of chicken bus traveling to this remote place of the island of Palawan, but Greenviews in Port Bortan is worth it. All I do here is reading books, go snorkeling, cuddle puppies, collect shells and think. I feel perfectly at peace at this quiet, remote beach and I don’t want to leave. Like ever.”

It takes us some hours to get to Port Barton from Puerto Princesa, but it’s so worth it. It’s such a beautiful, remote beach surrounded by jungle. Greenviews Resort lies at the end of a long stretch of this beach on the eastern edge of the bay in an idyllic location. It offers traditional cottages with clean bathrooms and beautifully landscaped grounds.

The simple, rustic cottages of Greenviews are designed to blend with the serene and lush green mountain forest surrounding it and the beach is right in front of you. There are local boats that offer island hopping to see beautiful coral, deserted islands and wonderful snorkeling. The short trip to the Mangrove River is a special treat where you can see a unique habitat which has been destroyed in so many other places.

Palawan, which is north of Borneo, is called the ‘last frontier’ and consists of 1700 islands, the main being 400km long and relatively narrow. It is a place of outstanding natural beauty with virgin mountain jungle and unspoilt deserted islands and my favorite place of the Philippines.
