“I landed in a fairy tale when walking into Rauris Virgin Forest in Austria. Pines so high I can’t see where they end, the reflection of my face in the ponds, green moss that covers everything and gives this place somewhat a romantic touch.”

In the valley head of Kolm Saigurn in Austria you can find the Rauris Virgin Forest. It is a popular excursion destination in the Raurisertal region. The forest is called the Virgin Forest as the forest has escaped the impact of modern human beings. It has remained intact for years and years and to be wandering around at this nature spot is something remarkable.

In the forest you will encounter more than 80 ponds with reflections as clear as your mirror at home. The forest is so green and lush with fallen down trees that become one with the earth again and are a true paradise for all different mushrooms and little creatures.

A hike trough the forest will take about 2 hours and can be done during the green summer as well as during a white winter while everything is covered in snow. Either way: a visit to this piece of Europe’s natural heritage can’t be missed while you are in Salzburgerland!
