Neuschwanstein Castle
“Visiting Neuschwanstein castle in Germany felt like stepping right into a fairy tale – hiking up a mountain, walking through the forest and all of a sudden the castle emerges from the trees. It sure felt magical.”
The Neuschwanstein Castle is one you might have heard of before as it’s pretty popular and when you see the pictures you know why – it’s just so gorgeous. Back in 1869 King Ludwig II wanted a castle that was inspired by fairy tales, a big castle like one from the medieval times. He spent all his money on the castle, as his plans got bigger and bigger. Eventually he went mad and the castle was never fully finished, but it still looks pretty majestic if you ask me.
The castle is one of Germany’s most popular tourist attraction, one might even call it a tourist trap. It will probably be crowded with people and it’s definitely not very obscure, but it’s just so wonderful that I think you’ll have to see it for yourself. The area around the castle is stunning too and there are several hikes you can take. From the Marienbrücke you’ll have the greatest view of the castle. If you cross the bridge you’ll find several hiking routes and more viewing points. Only the entrance to the castle itself costs money (and parking), the area surrounding the castle are free to enter.
Just a little tip – don’t go in high season like I did. Yes, it’s going to be touristic but it’s also going to be worth it, trust me!
