“Glaciers are magical, lakes are magical, the ocean is magical. Imagine seeing an iceberg break off a glacier, float through the lake and end up in the ocean while you are watching the whole process. Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is pure magic in its best form”

Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is a strange combination of everything that is beautiful. You can see the most beautiful ice sculptures there. You can see icebergs floating. You can see large chunk of ice breaking off. Some of the most transparent ice cubes are to be found on the beach. I could stay there for hours observing all the beauty around me.

Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is located on Highway 1 about 400 km from Reykjavik. There is plenty of parking space. Be aware of the times where there are large busses full of tourists. They won’t stay long. Being alone in such an alien place, enjoying the crackling of the icebergs, is something worth waiting for.

You can take a boat and float around the icebergs. For sure do this when you have the opportunity. I have never felt so close to being on the Northpole as I was there.
