‘Driving the Great Alpine Highway and passing through Arthur’s Pass I feel so free….Just me, my car, wind blowing through my hair, my favourite music and the amazing New Zealand landscapes that are passing me by…’

A lot of visitors in New Zealand hire a car or campervan. It is the best way to discover this great country. Relocation cars are popular, these are cars that need to be brought from A to B in mostly 1-2 days. You can rent a relocation car for $1 a day and most of the time the fuel is included!

I rented a relocation car and did a coast to coast trip from Christchurch to Greymouth. This is a famous roadtrip of 250 kilometre through the amazing landscapes of the southers island. The route follows State Highway 73 west across river plains before rising to traverse through Porters Pass and Arthur’s Pass National Park. Highlights include the impressive Waimakariri and Otira River gorges, driving along the Otira Viaduct and exploring natural wonders like the Castle Hill Rocks and Cave Stream Reserve.

The windy roads and changes in elevation requires some driving skills, but that is part of the adventure! Around every corner you will want to stop the car to see the surroundings or just breath in the fresh mountain air.
