When you’re strolling around in the sand at flea market Mercadillo de Sant Jordi, an ancient place where horses once were the only living creatures on the island of Ibiza, you will for sure find the most beautiful treasures…

Every Saturday the old ‘hippodrome’ turns into the biggest flea market of Ibiza: Mercadillo de Sant Jordi. Early in the morning around 400 cars wait to enter the hippodrome to open their trunk and show everything they would love to sell. Almost everything you will find here is second-hand but you also can buy fruit, vegetables, plants and some new stuff.

You can find everything on this market; clothes from the sixties, jewels from Africa, creations of feathers, toys, dresses… It’s a combination of trash and treasures and that makes this place awesome. All sort of people walk around here – buying stuff, eating some food at the bar near the entrance and listening to the drummers who make music at the stairs. I saw many friends who bought something beautiful for almost nothing at this market. You have to search for it, but if that’s what you like, you are probably a happy camper at the end of the day!

Because I’m always leaving Ibiza to travel during winter, I’ve only be here in summer – but I’ve heard the best time to go is in winter! In summer it’s busy with stalls, but I’ve heard it’s nothing when you compare it to winter. So when you would like to have a new second-hand outfit, book a weekend Ibiza in November and find your treasure!

If you love flea markets, you definitely have to go to Sant Jordi. You will love it. It’s ideal to combine it with a visit to one of the beaches in the south of the island!
