Dar Arraha
“I don’t know if you have read Lucinda Riley’s Seven Sisters books, but this place reminds me SO much of how I pictured Atlantis in my mind. It’s such a hidden, sere oasis in the middle of the Atlas mountains in Morocco, and the fact that I spoke with the two sisters who run the place now, the place that was also built by their father for his family, brick by brick with his own hands… such similarities!”
Dar Arraha is a charming accommodation in Ouirgane, Morocco, that offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Whether you are seeking adventure or relaxation, this beautiful retreat is the perfect destination for travelers looking to experience the authentic charm of rural Morocco.
The property was actually their family home, the place where they grew up. Their dad build this place in over 20 years and they have just opened up for guests, because they felt it’s worth sharing with more like minded people. It’s such a dream place! A true bohemian gem. The definition of oasis. We had a wonderful time here and I wish we could have stayed longer. Our ‘room’ was a house in itself and I especially loved the fireplace, the tiled bath and the comfy bed – but the property itself is even more stunning. A huge garden overlooking the valley, with so many secret spots and corners – I felt like Alice in Wonderland. Surprises everywhere, such as the yin yang symbol (I can only imagine their dad creating this by hand and it touches me!) and the meditation path. I fell in love with this place, nestled in the serene landscapes of the Atlas Mountains near Ouirgane.
Ouirgane is a small village located just 60 kilometers from Marrakech, is known for its stunning natural beauty and vibrant Berber culture. The region is a gateway to the Toubkal National Park, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and hikers. Amid this picturesque setting, Dar Arraha stands as a welcoming refuge that embodies the warmth and hospitality of the Moroccan people.
The accommodation is a traditional Moroccan house, or “dar,” that has been thoughtfully designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings. With its earthen walls, rustic architecture, and a backdrop of rolling hills, Dar Arraha exudes an authentic Moroccan ambiance that immediately puts guests at ease. It is a place of peace.
Dar Arraha offers 7 accommodations to suit different needs. I even spotted a cute cabin, something to consider for our next visit! Each room is tastefully decorated with locally crafted furnishings, colorful textiles, and intricate tile work, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region. The whole place is uniquely charming, and every little detail is made with, and by, love.
You can relax in the traditional Moroccan lounge, enjoy a cup of mint tea in the courtyard, or take in the panoramic views from the highest point. There are seats and corners everywhere and their pool is also very inviting! Take a stroll along the meditation path and watch the sun go down over the valley. The atmosphere is one of peace and serenity, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring the nearby trails or villages.
One of the many highlights of staying at Dar Arraha was also the opportunity to experience authentic Moroccan cuisine. We have had a delicious dinner and breakfast was suberb too.
They plan (yoga) retreats sometimes, so keep an eye. I wish we will come back one day!
