Ocean Vagabond
‘Ocean Vagabond in Morocco is perfect. I don’t know what it is about surf spots but somehow they always bring that relaxed, welcoming vibe. No matter where you are on the planet, you can’t go wrong here.’
Wandering along the coast of windy Essouira in Morocco we decided to enquire about surfing options. Ocean Vagabond was recommended to us by fellow travelers so we decided to give it a go. Although we never made it surfing because of a wind change we ended up returning here for 3 days in a row. Ocean Vagabond turned out not only being a great surf school but also a relaxed hangout and restaurant.
A wooden interior combined with bright colors, big lounge chairs and hammocks makes for a welcoming entrée. Although you’re in a country where the culture might withhold you from twirling around in your bathing suit, feel free to put it on here. Everything is allowed and everybody is welcome. There is a great mix of young locals, experienced travelers and satisfied, tanned surfers.
Next to a happy, chill place the food here is also great! Being a vegetarian in Morocco can be a challenge if you want to eat something different than Tajine vegetable or Couscous vegetable. At Ocean Vagabond you can dig into a variety of large, hearty salads and delicious pizza’s. Any option on the menu can be turned into a vegetarian one on request. They also serve multiple fresh juices from local fruits and veggies, without added sugar. Plus, happy hour from 6-7 pm makes a great spot to drink some beers for a reasonable price. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself returning here like we did!
