L’ma Lodge
“Do you know those places where the pictures are always better than the real deal? L’ma Lodge is nothing like that. It will exceed all your expectations and you will never want to leave!”
Skoura is a small town that you pass while driving from the Moroccan desert to Marrakech. At a first glance this place might not seem worth a stop but it is a wonderful, quiet, non touristic option compared to its big sister Quarzazate. The best thing about Skoura is that it’s one of the few spots in Morocco where you can spend a night (or more) inside the widespread palmeries. When driving up to L’ma Lodge you’ll pass hundreds of palm trees. Going deeper into the palm forest roads will get bumpier and just when you think you are lost, there it is; a big, clay wall with a beautiful ancient door telling you that you have arrived at your destination.
The minute I stepped into L’ma Lodge I fell in love. Owners Vanessa and Xavier bought a rough plot of land a couple of years ago and created their own paradise that they happily share with you. A true home away from home. The enormous garden contains not only trees and flowers but all kinds of herbs, vegetables and fruits that they use in the restaurant. There is wheat to bake the morning bread and olives for a fragrant, cold press oil. I don’t think I need to tell you that the food is pretty amazing.
Rooms are located in a small riad in the back of the garden. Uniquely decorated with a great eye for detail. Our nature room was definitely one to recommend with a view on the palm trees and the sound of singing birds in the morning. The rooftop of the Riad is perfect for your morning yoga and all over the garden are little corners with hammocks or large cushions to catch up on your reading.
Tip: Visit the local market in town on monday!
