Wild Spirit
“I find myself at a hippie community right in the forests of Tsitsikamma,self-sufficient and free as a bird. At night, we dance bare feet in the grass. Such an unique experience, one to remember.”
Located deep in the unspoiled heart of South Africa’s famous Garden Route is the extraordinary place that is Wild Spirit Backpackers. It’s designed with the discerning independent traveller in mind and has the ultimate bohemian gypsy vibe. I’ve stayed in a double room, but Wild Spirit offers a range of accommodation options including en-suite double, twin and family rooms, as well as bunk-free dorms, safari tents, tipis and camping sites.
Wild Spirit is a family-run experience in green living and alternative travel, Wild Spirit caters for conscious explorers and open-minded travellers who are seeking something slightly different off the regular tourist track.
This is a creative, organic, spontaneous space where interesting people gather to exchange energy, skills and ideas in an exquisite natural setting. If you enjoy expansive conversations around a fire, alternative therapies, exploring rainforests and eating wholesome food, then this is your place. If you prefer fancy up-market facilities, partying all night long, and complaining about spiders, then it is not.
Enjoy the Night Owl Bar, a large self-catering kitchen, library, yoga space, recycling depot, delicious homemade meals, and lots more. I adore their Tree House Deck & Boma area, with its stunning views. It’s a space where everyone relaxes together at breakfast time over coffee or around an open fire in the evening. Parties happen too! I had a blast listening to Josh Roxton playing in an old open air hippie van. There are regular drum workshops and visiting musicians who play for their stay.
