Taman Mini Indonesia Indah
“When I first heard about this miniature park in Jakarta, I was thinking of a small park with cute little miniature houses and a lot of Indonesian culture and history. I was right about the culture and history part, but Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is the opposite of small!”
It sounds kind of odd, but I really liked it. Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), which translates to Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park, takes you on a journey through all of Indonesia in just one day.
TMII is a HUGE open-air museum that shows typical architecture, flora and fauna of different Indonesian areas. The traditional buildings are recreated at their actual size and most of them are even accessible. When I say the park is huge, I really mean huge: it’s no less than 100 hectares in size. It is possible to explore the park by foot, but I would really recommend to go by car or use the shuttle busses or mini trains that drive around in the park. You can stop by each of the pavilions to learn more about the traditional buildings and the history that comes with it.
In addition to the open-air museum, there are many more things to visit at TMII like several indoor museums, a huge playground for kids, an insect garden, a flower garden and the largest aviary I have ever seen in my life.
If you’re interested in history and architecture I would really recommend visiting TMII. I thought it was really cool to go inside all the traditional houses and learn more about Indonesian culture.
