Sea Dreams Hotel
“I feel right at home staying at the Seadreams Hotel at Caye Caulker, the hippie island of Belize. The fresh ocean breeze gently strokes my hair and while I climb in one of their hammocks, I can’t stop but stare at that blue blue blue ocean right in front of me.”
On the northern tip of Caye Caulker you can find Sea Dreams Hotel – oceanfront accommodation nestled into the mangrove flats. The Seadreams Hotel is located right at the split, which is kind of where it all happens on the island of Caye Caulker. Still, it’s a quiet place and we feel right at home here. Upstairs you can find a bar serving perfect cocktails and amazing nacho’s. I can stay in the hammocks at this rooftop deck forever, enjoying the three-sided view of the ocean. And did I tell you about and the tree-covered courtyard yet? It’s so pretty!
We sleep in an apartment downstairs, but they also offer cabanas with private decks and hammocks. Staying here included breakfast and the use of bicycles and canoes. The apartment offers everything we need and I absolutely adore the carved wooden sinks and the Mayan details.
The owners of the boutique hotel are committed to employing local artisans, protecting the environment, and funding local education. They are a part of such a good cause and when you stay at Sea Dreams Hotel, you are part of their dream – they founded the island’s first high school. Before they’ve opened this school, the island’s only school stopped at seventh grade!
The Sea Dreams scholarship fund pays school fees for students who would not otherwise attend high school (school is not free in Belize). Consider leaving more than footprints behind, you may contribute to the scholarship fund or bring down needed school supplies!
