“The Backstay Hostel is a perfect place to stay when visiting the beautiful city of Ghent in Belgium.”
The Backstay Hostel in Ghent is a hostel in a beautiful monumental Art Deco building with a rich history. The hostel found its home in the former office of “Dagblad Vooruit” (a Belgian Newspaper) and was later turned into an cultural house called “Backstage”. So you can guess where the name Backstay comes from!
Different elements of the buildings history are kept intact, which makes the interior of the hostel pretty unique. After entering through the beautiful old doors with art deco details you’ll find an oldschool ticket counter. Every room is named after a newspaper and there even is a special ‘blogroom’ filled with typewriters if you really want to experience the buildings history. The hostel has 15 rooms and a total of 104 beds and is located within walking distance of the historic city centre.
In contrast to most hostels, bed linnen, luggage storage and breakfast is all included. The breakfast buffet is pretty standard but unique because of one important thing: you can make your own Belgian waffles! And what way better to start your day then with freshly baked waffles when visiting Belgium?
