Fish smokehouse Glut & Späne and Café Zum Löwen
“I have no idea where we are. This village right above Berlin in Germany is small and I’m quite sure I’ve never hear of it before, but it’s said to host one of the best fish smokehouses (Glut & Späne and Café Zum Löwen) this area north of Berlin knows, so off we go!”
The only thing I knew to expect was fish and I was looking forward to it for a couple of days already, ever since we decided to take the road trip to Gerswalde. We parked our car right in the middle of the village center and walked for a couple of minutes until we saw the sign. It didn’t look like a place where things happened, but let’s find out.
We entered the gate and stood in the middle of some abandoned-looking barns. Is this really the place? We walked to the other side of the barns and my jaw dropped. It was cosy, filled with people and it felt like a nice beer garden I could see myself spend the biggest part of summer.
But that wasn’t even the biggest surprise. It seemed like the garden didn’t only host a fish smokehouse but also a big vegetable garden worthy of a stroll, and a small café, looking like a gorgeous green house which offered home baked goods and fresh coffee.
You could easily spend a warm summer day here. Take one of the picknick blankets from the café, find a spot on the grass in the middle of the garden and enjoy a delicious cake. But let’s not forget the fish, oh that fish.. I still dream about it sometimes and can’t wait for next summer until we can spend another afternoon in Gerswalde.
