I’m back in Bangkok, the noise, the vibe, the smell, everything brings me back. The only thing is, I’m only 10 minutes away from my home in Berlin… Hello Thai Park.

Thai Park in Berlin is an institution, well known for it’s amazing food and the great vibe. The story goes that all Thai women who moved to Berlin started to gather in West-Berlins Preußenpark. Because they didn’t have a garden or balcony in their apartments, they started to cook in the park, not only for each other but for everyone that came by. Officially cooking in a park is not allowed in Berlin, but the police turns a blind eye.

If you enter Preußenpark you see a lot of brightly coloured sunshades, underneath them are (mostly) women cooking. Improvised workstations provide them with all their needs. Dumplings, spring rolls, pad thai, fried rice.. everything you could wish for is made there, right in front of you.

Thai Park usually starts when spring starts. As soon as the first real sunny days show themselves, Thai women pop up in the park. Just pop by or check on Facebook to be really sure it’s opened.
