“Just like everything else in Iceland, the Black Sand Beaches of Vík are quite magical. It’s a place that looks like it belongs on a planet that isn’t ours. Together with the basalt columns and the famous cliffs Reynisdrangar, Vík really is a place you have to visit if you’re in this beautiful country.”

Vík í Mýrdal is a small village located at the south coast of Iceland. You might have seen one of these images before, as this is a pretty popular place to visit. But not without reason! The beach is just stunning and out of this world, what a place! The basalt cliffs Reynisfjall are such an iconic view as well. Legends say the cliffs are former trolls who tried to drag their boats out to sea but were surprised by a sudden rising dawn. Quite magical indeed mm?

Located on the ring road it’s also easily reached from Reykjavik, although it’s a bit of a drive. You can either go by a rented car or with a tour like I did. I booked mine at the tourist information centre at Reykjavik, where there are plenty of other options.

Make sure to pack a rain coat though: this is the wettest place in Iceland!
