“Eager for a change of scenery I leave the busy city of Dublin for something more peaceful: the Howth Cliff Walk. After exiting the train station I immediately hear the seagulls and smell the salty air of the seaside. The views are stunning, the wind is strong and the sun is shining. What a place!”

Howth, originally a fishing village, lies just outside Dublin in Ireland. With the DART train you’ll be there in about 30 minutes, which makes it a really good half day trip. When you exit the train station you immediately enter the small harbour of Howth. In summer time you might even see some seals here!

In the harbour you’ll find directions to the start of the cliff walk. There are several routes, they differ from 6 to 10 kilometers. I opted for the 6 kilometers one and walked to the Baily Lighthouse. The path isn’t always steady and can become quite muddy, so make sure to wear sturdy shoes. It is really stunning though and if you have the whole day, then definitely go for the longest one!

Tired and hungry after your walk? There are plenty of great fish & chips shops in the village! If you’re looking for something more healthy head out to the Howth Deli Market which is just across the DART station.
