Lagoa das Furnas is a volcanic lake on Sao Miguel, one of the Portugese islands of the Azores. The lake appears to be bright green and is surrounded by more lush green forest. On the shores of the lake you can find old churches overlooking the quiet and calm lake.
Even more impressive are the signs of the active volcano. Bubbling mud, steam vents and boiling waterholes show you the power of the earth. It made me feel small. In a split second earth can take back everything.
