Lloyd Hotel Amsterdam
‘Wow, a hammock ánd a bath in the same room: staying at this suite of the Lloyd hotel in Amsterdam is just perfect for me: exactly what I needed.’
With the upmarket Eastern Docklands at the front and the ultra-urban access point to the city centre at the back, Lloyd Hotel is perfectly located! When I ride my bike along the Handelskade towards the hotel this art deco building starts to get bigger and bigger on my right hand side. When I arrive I am standing in front of the Lloyd Hotel: a hotel with an amazing history and flair.
From 1921 till 1935 Lloyd was a hotel for emigrants that were headed to South America by boat. After this the hotel was used as a refugee camp for Jewish people, a prison and a place where artists were working and living. In 2004 it opened back as a hotel. Next to being a hotel, Lloyd welcomes cultural events, business meetings and people that want to come in for a lovely dinner in their spacious restaurant. Lloyd Restaurant is local, and so is their food. All dishes are prepared by Executive Chef Paul Kroonenburg and his team. Their ever-changing menu caters to vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. They use the freshest ingredients, local and organic where possible, with influences from around the globe!
Lloyd Hotel is the first 1-to-5 star hotel in the world. Their iconic building in Amsterdam offers spacious rooms in all shapes and sizes and literally every room is unique! All of the rooms of Lloyd Hotel are equipped with Auping beds, fluffy blankets, fair ecological linen and (from the 2 star rooms and up) Marie Stella Maris care products. In every room you will find a tv, desk, phone, hairdryer and free WiFi. There are 117 unique rooms available. When you make your booking you can choose the amount of stars and therefor the price category. The staff of Lloyd will then pick a room for you. This way it will always be a surprise where you will end up!
I stayed in a 5* room (no. 608, with hammock and a bath!) and I loved it. Breakfast was very good too: they serve an extensive Dutch breakfast buffet with local and organic products.
All in all, the hotel is very boho proof: hammocks, swings, cute tiles, perfect colour combinations and every different room being something special makes it a perfect getaway for your trip to Amsterdam. Are you ready for a bit of a fancy, crazy surprise?
