“Simplicity, nature and and inspiration: just a few things I found at this unique shepherds hut called Keetje. Sleeping here is such an experience, a truly pure stay. Wow!”

In the middle of the beautiful province Drenthe in The Netherlands, you will find this shepherds hut that is transformed into a romantic tiny shack to stay in.

This hut once served as a food shack during the prohibition of the Flevopolder in The Netherlands. A history to be proud of! That’s why the owners retained the authentic character. They have added some luxury aspects such as a comfortable bed, cooking facilities, a wood stove and electricity. This is definitely a unique cabin for an original night’s stay! You don’t have to bring anything, the cabin facilitates a single bed and a 2nd extra single bed, 2 benches with cushions and a table (hello board games!) and a kitchen with refrigerator, water from a jerry can, a coffee percolator and kitchen utilities. There is a wood-burning stove and an electric stove as well as an extra wood-burning stove outside. Making a camp fire is a must! There’s also a canopy, outdoor chairs and table, a barbecue and an open view with beautiful sunsets.

The hut is located at the outer area of a nature camping called the Voscheheugte. This campsite is my favourite in Drenthe! It’s extensive with enough space and it’s a lovely place to enjoy nature, the fine food of the eatery and the sanitary area is one of the most luxurious and cleanest I have ever encountered at a camp site.

After just a few minutes on foot you will find yourself right on the Mantingerzand. It’s a beautiful area full of heather, trees, sand dunes and natural grazers. Yes for insta-worthy pictures every moment of the year! Because Mantinge is located in the centre of Drenthe, it is a perfect base to explore the multifaceted province. Dwingelderveld National Park is well worth a visit. The cities Assen and Emmen are within half an hour’s drive. Watch out: before you know it, you’re short of time!
