Slapen op de Heide
“Finding this beautiful house and booking it for a week resulted in finding the perfect home away from home! Slapen op de Heide is a beautiful place. Waking up here is bliss: you find yourself right at the Strijbeekse Heide. It almost felt like an African savanna in the Netherlands!”
Forest house Slapen op de Heide is located in a unique place in the Netherlands, on the edge of nature reserve Strijbeekse Heide. This nature reserve is exceptionally beautiful and lies right on the border with Belgium. The charming house itself is quietly situated on a paved sandy path on a private site of 6500 m2, adjacent to the nature reserve Strijbeekse Heide. It is located on the border, so it has the atmosphere of the forest but not the darkness!
The forest house is suitable for up to 5 persons and is completely self-contained; is not part of a holiday park or estate. It was completely renovated in early 2015 and has a light and natural interior. On the ground floor are the hall with wardrobe, the living room with Smart TV and wood stove, the fully equipped kitchen and dining table and the bathroom with bath, shower, sink and toilet. Upstairs are two separate bedrooms, both with a sink and two box spring beds each. There is an extra bed in one of the bedrooms.
It’s the perfect holiday home for a couple or a family, yet I decided to book this with friend and fellow freelancer Liv. We both work at home normally but we love to go somewhere to be able to combine work & pleasure: a so-called workation! Slapen op de Heide turned out to be the perfect place for that. It offers all we needed for our workation: steady internet, quietness, nature all around us for daily walks, a wood stove for cozy fires, a bath, comfortable beds, a large table to work at and a kitchen to prepare yummy food. The house has a fenced large garden (6500 m2) with a large lawn, water lilies, a shed, a barbecue, seating areas and loungers, picnic tables, a trampoline and sun until late at night There are two bicycles available too!
We especially loved our daily walks and were surprised by the beauty of this area. The nature reserve consists of forests, heather and lakes and it’s a beautiful place to stroll around. We did not see anyone for hours! There are numerous walking routes set out and the area is beautiful during all seasons. The lovely Smokkelaarsroute (Smugglers Route) 8 km almost runs past the forest house and sneaks you into Belgium!
