‘Aoraki – Mount Cook National Park in New Zealand knows how to get me quiet. I sit down staring at the Blue Lakes and loose track of time…the colors of these lakes are fascinating.’

Aoraki – Mount Cook is mountain heaven. With 19 peaks over 3000 meter this rugged land of ice and rock will keep you want to do hike after hike to see more. Glaciers covers 40% of the park and it is part of Te Waipounamu – South Westland World Heritage Area in recognition of its outstanding natural values.

There are a several hikes you can do, but I’ll promise you that none of them will be dissapointing. From multiple day tramping to one day tracks: there is something for everyone. If you are keen to do a short track for about an hour, make sure you do the Blue Lakes/Tasman Glacier track. This track (yes, it’s a bit steep) makes you walk up the mountain. Once on top after 30 minutes you have magnificent views over Tasman Glacier, the longest glacier in New Zealand and the Blue Lakes. Not a great walker? Also driving through the park will get you amazing views.

As weather conditions can be severe, please check the weather forecast before setting out!
