“It was a hot summer afternoon when we arrived at Jembisa Bush Home, located in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. As soon as I stepped out of the car, I was greeted by the sound of birds, two excited dogs and the sweetest hosts we have ever met. I couldn’t wait to explore the surroundings and see what this beautiful place had to offer!”

In the breathtakingly beautiful mountainous scenery of the Waterberg, lies a beautiful malaria-free private game reserve with two exquisite small lodges, Jembisa Bush Home and Magari Safari Lodge. We had the chance to stay at Jembisa Bush Home, their luxurious bush home. The place is situated in beautiful wilderness above the Palala river in the Waterberg region of the northern Limpopo province of South Africa. It offers a wide range of wildlife and safari activities that are flexible to suit all ages and interests, perfect four our little family. We directly drove from the airport to Jembisa as it’s very easily accessible from Johannesburg!

Jembisa Bush Home is beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable with spacious, light and airy rooms and 6 en-suite bedrooms and a children’s bunkroom. 5 of the en-suite bedrooms are situated within Jembisa Bush Home and the 6th bedroom is adjacent to the lodge. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and our room had a private balconies with incredible views of the garden and bushveld. Jembisa was originally built as a family home and for many years the owners lived here. The same family still owns and runs the reserve and with their presence Jembisa has retained a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere! Staying here really does feel like a home away from home.

After settling into our room, we headed out to explore the surroundings. Best news ever: we could take our 10 months old son Atlas without a problem! They have a child seat in the safari vehicle and it was amazing taking him on adventures. The reserve is home to an incredible variety of wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, hippos and many different species of antelope. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and was able to tell us all about the different animals and plants we encountered. Our son saw his first giraffe, such a beautiful memory. I can’t stop telling you how sweet the hosts and staff are at Jembisa Bush Lodge. They would help us with everything, cater everything to our needs and especially they made such effort to make our stay memorable.

One of the highlights of our stay at Jembisa were all those bush breakfasts, lunches and dinner that were arranged for us. We were driven out into the bush so many times or were surprised in the garden with beautifully set-up dining areas, complete with camp fires, lanterns and candles. Dining under the starts with the sounds of the bush around us: a truly unforgettable experience with good food! We enjoyed a lovely massage as well.

Another great thing about Jembisa Bush Home is the range of activities that they can arrange for you. In addition to game drives, guests can also enjoy guided bush walks, night safaris, and even bush campouts. There’s something for everyone and they are a super child friendly lodge!

We truly had an incredible time at Jembisa Bush Home. The accommodation was comfortable and luxurious, the surroundings were stunning, and the staff were super friendly. If you’re looking for a luxurious African bush experience, we’d highly recommend a stay at Jembisa Bush Home!
